Uber T-Mobile Aurora Mighty AI

Ethan is a software engineer with a decade of experience building payment and data infrastructure at some of the world's most demanding technology companies. His past work spans engineering at Uber, T-Mobile, Aurora, and Mighty AI. His personal ties brought him to the Philippines where he founded Pouch.ph, the first bitcoin/lightning wallet in the region. He also helped to start the Bitcoin Island community in Boracay, Philippines, a beautiful beach community where it is possible to live on a bitcoin standard.

Company

ZapRemit's origins run deep in the Bitcoin Lightning ecosystem. Aside from owning Pouch.ph, the Lightning Network wallet app for the Philippines, ZapRemit is also behind LUD-21 (now LUD-22), an open protocol proposal for fiat-denominated payments over Lightning that brings cohesion to bitcoin payments startups across the world.

ZapRemit was purpose-built to bring remittance market offramps to enterprises using the Lightning Network, which is increasingly being adopted by next generation eWallets and Neobanks. Instant global settlement over bitcoin/lightning means and fintech companies do not need to pre-fund float accounts to connect to our API to offer remittances to their users.

What we build

ZapRemit is an API-first remittance infrastructure provider. We connect Lightning-enabled wallets, neobanks, and fintech platforms to a global network of local payment rails — banks, mobile wallets, cash pickup networks, and billers — without requiring pre-funded local float accounts.

One simple integration gives you access to all markets. Access to an expanding set of corridors with FX rates benchmarked to beat the industry, plus the advantage of cuttting out several intermediaries.

Who we serve

We build for developers and the companies behind them:

  • Lightning-enabled wallets — self-custodial and custodial
  • Neobanks adding international payout features
  • Fintech platforms with cross-border disbursement needs
  • Payment orchestrators and aggregators
  • Payroll platforms
  • Bespoke emerging products such as Ai agents requiring payout tools

If you're moving value over Lightning and want to settle it in local currency anywhere in the world, ZapRemit is the missing piece.

Why Lightning

The Lightning Network enables instant bitcoin settlement with minimal fees and no chargebacks. For remittance transfers, this eliminates the correspondent banking overhead, days-long settlement windows, and locked capital that make traditional cross-border payments expensive.

We built ZapRemit to make this accessible to any developer — so that the speed and cost advantages of Lightning reach the people who need them most.

Compliance

ZapRemit operates in compliance with applicable remittance and financial services regulations. We take a risk-based approach to AML/KYC and work closely with partners to ensure responsible deployment.

Partner platforms are required to hold appropriate money transmission licenses or equivalent authorizations in their operating jurisdictions and to maintain compliant KYC/AML programs for their end users.
